Thailand is on its way to gaining an even stronger role on the international motorsport map. A new agreement between SRO Motorsports Group – one of the world's largest racing organizations – and The Super Series in Thailand, means that Thai racing now receives international support and higher status.
What is SRO Motorsports Group?
SRO is a European company that works with racing all over the world. Their specialty is sports cars – fast cars that look like a Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini, but are built for racing. SRO organizes races in Europe, the USA, Asia and Australia and attracts both world stars and local drivers.
Now they have chosen to collaborate with Thailand's largest racing series.
What is The Super Series?
The Super Series (TSS) is Thailand's most famous motorsport series. Both Thai and international drivers compete here - often in very powerful sports cars. The series is run on several different tracks in Thailand and neighboring countries, for example in Buriram, Bangsaen and Sepang (Malaysia).
What is the collaboration about?
The collaboration means that TSS now uses the same rules as the SRO's major international series – including a justice system called Balance of performanceThis ensures that different car brands compete on equal terms. All cars will also use the same type of tires, just like in SRO's other competitions in Europe and the USA.
For Thai drivers, this means they now compete under the same rules as the best in the world – and can compare themselves directly with them.
Competition calendar for 2025
The season began with two days of testing in April – when 106 cars from 14 different car brands drove at Chang International Circuit in Buriram. Now five race weekends await:
- May 22–25 – Chang International Circuit, Buriram
- July 2–6 – Bangsaen Street Circuit
- August 8–10 – Sepang International Circuit (Malaysia)
- September 19–21 – Sepang International Circuit (Malaysia)
- October 31–November 2 – Season finale in Buriram
The races are usually broadcast for free on YouTube. You can follow the competitions via:
Celebrity cars and famous names
This year's series includes cars from Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Honda and more. New models such as the Ferrari 296 GT3 and Porsche 911 GT3 R (Type 992) make their debut on Thai tracks.
Several world-renowned drivers have participated in previous years, including Earl Bamber, Edoardo Mortara and Markus Winkelhock. This year, former F1 driver Gianni Morbidelli also participated in the test days.
Why is this big for Thailand?
That an organization like the SRO chooses to partner with Thailand is a sign that the country is seen as an important hub for motorsport in Asia. It brings greater visibility, more international drivers and perhaps in the long term – more Thai drivers getting the chance to compete globally.
“This partnership gives Thailand a place in the international motorsport network,” said Stéphane Ratel, founder of SRO. “We are excited to work together with The Super Series.”
