The government's economic plan with a digital wallet has been widely discussed. Earlier we wrote about how the investment with 10000 baht is meant to stimulate the economy. Read more about the first phase here.

Thailand's Constitutional Court has unanimously rejected a petition challenging the government's economic plan to hand out 10000 baht to citizens via a digital wallet. The decision means that the support can now be implemented as planned, which is an important step to stimulate the economy.

The government's financial investment

The Thai government has already announced its big economic plan there 10000 baht to be distributed digitally to the country's citizens. The purpose of the support is to increase consumption and thus strengthen the economy, especially for small and medium-sized companies that have been hit hard by the challenges of recent years.

The plan was presented in several stages, and earlier today we reported that the first phases have already contributed to a noticeable increase in the country's BNP by over 3%.

Court decision: Petition dismissed

A petition had been submitted to the Thai Constitutional Court where critics argued that the government's plan did not follow the rules first presented. Critics argued that there were legal flaws in the method of implementation.

However, the Constitutional Court unanimously rejected the petition, stating that there was no sufficient legal basis to stop or review the government's plan. This means that the digital wallet and the support of 10 baht have now been given the green light.

Next step: What happens now?

With the court's decision, the government can proceed with the full implementation of the support. The 10 baht to be distributed via the digital wallet is expected to reach millions of citizens in the coming months.

The government sees this as a necessary measure to boost domestic consumption, while critics still question the long-term sustainability and funding of the program.

Reactions: Mixed voices

Government representatives have welcomed the court's decision, seeing it as confirmation that their economic plan is legal and necessary. The Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stated:

"We are happy to be able to continue supporting the population and the economy through this investment. It is an important step towards a stronger future.”

At the same time, some economists express concern that the support could lead to increased national debt. Opposition parties have also indicated that they will continue to monitor how the aid is implemented.
