Analysis of currency developments
This week the currency market is showing mixed developments. Both the Swedish krona (SEK) and the US dollar (USD) has increased in value, while the euro (EUR) is the only one that has fallen. The biggest increase is seen in SEK with +1,03%, closely followed by USD by +0,93%.
- USD/THB: The dollar has strengthened by almost one percent, which can be linked to new tone from the Federal Reserve, where a continued hawkish stance has been signaled despite declining inflation.
- GBP/THB: The pound rose slightly by +0,41%, supported by stable labor market data and reduced concerns about recession in the UK.
- EUR/THB: The euro fell by -0,35% after German industrial statistics came in weaker than expected, which affected the market's view of eurozone growth.
- SEK/THB: The krona recovered from the previous week's decline and rose by +1,03%. The rise was driven by continued strong defense exports and increased optimism about Sweden's economic resilience.
Compared to the beginning of the year, the Swedish krona has had a remarkable rise. On January 9, the rate was 3,1373 THB per crown – today it is at 3,3395. This corresponds to a gain of approximately 6,45%, which in practice means that Swedish tourists get more for their money in Thailand. For example, a hotel night in Bangkok, which previously cost 1000 THB, now costs about 30 SEK less than at the beginning of the year.
